Ranchi’s Urban Development Department has proposed flyovers on three corridors: Birsa Chowk–Tupudana Chowk, Kathal Mor–Daladili Chowk and an integrated Lalpur–Firayalal–Dangratoli route. JUDCO prepared the designs, presented on September 3, 2026, to Chief Minister Hemant Soren during discussions on planned urban development.

Reported combined cost estimates range from ₹2,335.87 crore to about ₹2,357 crore; the final figure depends on the detailed project report, administrative approval and subsequent procedures. The projects remain at an early proposal stage, and ₹885 crore is not their final approved cost. The first two corridors would improve Ring Road connectivity and could divert through-traffic from busy central roads.

Tender processes have advanced for three other flyovers: Karamtoli–Chiraundi (about 3 km), Argora–Chaputoli (about 4 km) and Harmu Road. L-1 companies were selected, with construction preparations targeting October after formalities. In October 2024, the state inaugurated or laid foundation stones for road and flyover projects including Bahu Bazaar–Shantinagar, Sirmatoli–MECON–Kantatoli and Sahajanand Chowk–Kanke Road.

Ranchi will build a road overbridge (ROB) between Hatia Chandni Chowk and police headquarters, alongside a smart road from Dhurwa roundabout to police headquarters. The Road Construction Department will select a consultant to prepare the ROB’s detailed project report (DPR), including land acquisition details and project cost. The department’s Planning Investigation Division will prepare the full project. It aims to complete the DPR by October 2026 and obtain project approval within 2026.

Jharkhand approved ₹36.30 crore to upgrade a 2.6-km stretch from Dhurwa intersection to police headquarters on the Birsa Chowk-Project Bhawan-Chandni Chowk road in Ranchi. The project includes widening and strengthening the carriageway, geometric improvements, a dedicated cycle track, utility shifting, rehabilitation and resettlement, public amenities, beautification, horticulture with one-year maintenance, an environmental management plan and plantation.

The tender process is under way. Work is expected to begin within a month after bidding is completed and take around 10 months. The corridor passes Project Bhawan, state police headquarters, educational institutions and residential neighbourhoods; officials expect the upgrade to ease congestion and improve safety and facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.

Jharkhand has moved a comprehensive transport proposal to the Central Government, combining a 51.3 km metro network, nine flyovers and upgrades to 160 km of city roads.

The proposed metro has three lines: 16.1 km from Kutchery Chowk to Nayasarai; 13.7 km from Pahartoli to Namkum; and 21.5 km from Kanke to Tupudana.

Flyovers are planned at busy crossings including Hinoo, Birsa Chowk and Argora. Work is progressing on the Ratu Road flyover. MG Road and Kanke Road are among roads slated for widening, alongside improved sidewalks and cycle tracks.

The transport plans are drawing property interest in flats in Bariatu, Argora and Kanke, and plots in Namkum and Tupudana.

Ranchi Municipal Corporation's anti-encroachment drive displaced roadside vendors in several market areas, especially Daily Market, Station Road, and Rajendra Chowk–Birsa Chowk stretch. Displaced vendors questioned civic poll candidates during door-to-door campaigning, demanding clarity on rehabilitation and designated vending zones before pledging support. Vendors stated families depend on daily earnings and without rehabilitation or vending zones cannot survive. Former Ward 42 councillor Krishna Mahto said the issue complicated market-area campaigning; candidates faced direct questioning with vendors seeking written assurance of designated vending zones before eviction. Congress-backed mayoral candidate Rama Khalkho said urban planning must balance order with inclusion, stating inclusive development means ensuring no section is left out. Ward 9 candidate Fatima Hassan reported the issue became central in campaign interactions in market areas. Vendors emerged as an influential voter bloc ahead of polling.
