The Jharkhand State Housing Board is investigating allegations that MS Dhoni used his residence in Harmu Housing Colony, Ranchi, for commercial purposes. Dhoni’s five-katah plot was allotted by the Jharkhand government through a gift deed. He has said the house is not used commercially.

Board in-charge Sanjay Lal Paswan said no notice had been issued to Dhoni; if the allegations are substantiated, a legal notice will be served. The board has issued notices to around 200–300 people allotted residential plots who are allegedly using them commercially. Paswan said rules prohibit commercial activity on residential plots and that officials had been instructed to investigate complaints.

Reports of a diagnostic centre being planned there, and an alleged pathology-centre signboard later covered with green cloth, prompted the inquiry.

Housing Board Chairman Sanjay Lal Paswan said complaints had been received and officials instructed to investigate; if allegations are proven, Dhoni will be issued a notice. Residential plots cannot be used commercially, and officials have been directed to cancel allotments if unauthorized activity is confirmed.

In 2015, the board investigated an alleged illegal acquisition of an adjacent plot; that matter was resolved. The board has taken similar action against approximately 300 property owners, and the state BJP office in the same locality has also received notices.

The Jharkhand State Housing Board is investigating whether a diagnostic centre has been established at MS Dhoni’s former home on Harmu Road, Ranchi, in violation of rules prohibiting commercial use of residential plots. Board Chairman Sanjay Lal Paswan said the inquiry will examine the plot’s original allocation and whether it complies with regulations; action will follow if misuse is confirmed.

The state government allotted the roughly 10,000-square-foot plot to Dhoni for his cricketing achievements when Arjun Munda was chief minister. Dhoni now lives in a house on Ring Road in Simaliya. The Housing Board has also issued notices over alleged residential-land misuse at the BJP state headquarters on Harmu Road; both matters remain under investigation.

Work orders have not been issued for Ranchi’s Argora Chowk–Chaputoli, Harmu and Chiraudi flyovers, delaying construction. Tenders were finalized in early September 2026, with companies selected as L-1 bidders, but the matter remained pending for about a month. The State Highway Authority of Jharkhand has been negotiating rates for three months without reaching agreement, further delaying the start of work.

A Sunday shutdown for repairs to Ranchi’s Hatia rising pipeline disrupted water supply to more than three lakh people. The Drinking Water and Sanitation Department directed contractor Pathak Utility Private Limited to complete the repairs; executive engineer Sumit Kumar said supply would be restored after the work and normalised in phases from Monday, with timings varying by area.

Affected areas included Kokar, Bariatu, Piska More, District School, Harmu, Sirmatoli, Doranda, Hinoo, Booty More, Chutia, Station Road, Patel Chowk, Lowadih, Birsa Munda Bus Stand and Purulia Road. Residents reported household disruption and some bought jarred water. A Kokar hostel resident said supply had been inadequate for four days, with low pressure previously preventing its tank from filling. The hostel needs more than 5,000 litres daily.
