The 700-metre Goripalayam–Sellur arm of Madurai’s ₹213.80-crore Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose flyover is expected to open after remaining works finish by August-end.

The 700-metre-long, 8.5-metre-wide additional arm of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose flyover, connecting Goripalayam Junction to Sellur, is nearing completion. The ₹213.80-crore project’s elevated road opened to the public in February; the additional arm was due in June. The Sellur-side arm and approach road are still under construction, with the State Highways Department expecting completion by the end of August.
Commuters travelling from Goripalayam to Arapalayam or Vilangudi currently take the riverside approach road, a journey of nearly 30 minutes at peak hours. The new route via Tamukkam and Sellur is expected to cut travel time to around five minutes and provide a direct connection to Arapalayam.

The State Highways Department has resolved land acquisition delays on the 1.3-km flyover from Tamukkam to Nelpettai, popularly called the Goripalayam bridge. The ₹190.40-crore, 12-metre-wide project received technical sanction on April 30, 2023; Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched construction on October 30, 2023.
The flyover has three sections: Tamukkam ground to the Thevar statue; a parallel structure beside the existing AV Bridge to the Anna statue in Nelpettai; and the Thevar statue to Sellur. It will have 61 piers and 62 spans. The Nelpettai section parallel to the AV Bridge is due in November, and the Sellur arm, which will operate one-way, is due in December. The whole structure is expected to be completed before January 2026.
Service roads will be 10.5 metres wide between Tamukkam and American College, and 7.5 metres wide towards North Gateway Hotel and Sellur. A vehicular underpass will be built at the Bibikulam–Gandhi Museum Road junction.
