LOI (Letter of Intent) has been issued by GMADA for LandPooling Plots to Farmers whose land has been acquired. GMADA will recover ₹7,845 per square yard in enhancement charges from nearly 7,000 IT City plot holders and add the rate to unsold properties’ reserve prices.
Key facts
The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) will recover enhancement charges of ₹7,845 per square yard from nearly 7,000 IT City allottees and transferees. A January 22 letter from its chief accounts officer directs immediate recovery under approved guidelines; the charge will be added to reserve prices for unsold properties sold by auction or allotment.
Developed as a technology hub in 2010–11, IT City spans nearly 1,500 acres across Sectors 66-B, 82-A, 83-A and 101-A, with residential, commercial and industrial plots.
The move follows Punjab cabinet approval on December 31, 2025, of a final ₹2,216-per-square-metre enhancement charge for residential allottees in Sectors 76 to 80, reduced from ₹3,164 and then ₹2,325 per square metre.
In 2013, the Supreme Court ordered GMADA to pay landowners ₹300 crore in enhanced compensation. Allottees had undertaken to pay ₹700–₹850 per square yard, depending on plot size. After more than 10 years without formal recovery notices, interest reached about ₹288 crore, taking the total demand to nearly ₹600 crore.
