Patna Metro’s first interchange station at Khemnichak is expected to open by December, two months later than its earlier October deadline because construction remains incomplete. Work is progressing rapidly, but passenger services will begin only after construction on both the Malahi Pakri and Mithapur routes is complete. The 3.1-km elevated stretch between Khemnichak and Mithapur is targeted to open by June 2027.

Finishing work is set to begin at five underground Corridor-2 stations between Moinul Haq Stadium and Patna Junction: Moinul Haq Stadium, Patna University, PMCH, Gandhi Maidan and Akashvani. Work includes strengthening and completing tunnel and station structures, plastering and other finishing. Electrical installations and track-laying will follow; separate tenders will cover lifts and escalators. The Moinul Haq Stadium–Patna Junction section is targeted for commissioning by 2028.

Patna Metro’s alignment near Patna Zoo is set for a minor change so underground construction does not touch the zoo boundary. The design adjustment is not a major project change. Patna Metro Rail Corporation managing director Sandeep Kumar R Pudkalkatti reviewed design and construction plans with officials and agencies; the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, the project’s nodal agency, was asked to prepare the revised alignment. The change aims to avoid clearance delays and keep underground tunnelling within the road corridor.

Khemnichak, currently a pass-through station, is targeted to become operational in November 2026. The underground section is under construction and covers Rajendra Nagar, Moin-ul-Haq Stadium, Patna University, PMCH, Gandhi Maidan, Akashvani and Patna Junction.

Bihar sanctioned ₹628.32 crore for the Patna Metro Rail Project under the Centre’s Special Assistance Scheme for Capital Investment for 2026–27. Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited will receive the funds, primarily for underground station tunnelling and excavation at Patna Junction, Akashvani, Gandhi Maidan, PMCH, Patna Science College, Moin-ul-Haq Stadium and Rajendra Nagar. Funding will also support elevated works at Malahi Pakri, Khemnichak, Bhootnath, Zero Mile, Mithapur, Ramkrishan Nagar and Jaganpura, and clear pending contractor payments. Further funding is expected in phases as construction milestones are verified.

Bihar’s first mass rapid transit system is a two-corridor network spanning nearly 31 km and 24 stations, with an approved cost of ₹13,925 crore: 20% funded by the Centre, 20% by Bihar and 60% through Japan-backed JICA loans. The lines interchange at Patna Junction and Khemnichak. A 3.6-km elevated Blue Line stretch between Bhootnath, Zero Mile and New ISBT is operating under DMRC’s operations and maintenance arrangement. DMRC has tendered automatic fare collection systems for all 24 stations. Areas near stations are attracting developer and homebuyer attention, with potential for stronger housing, rental and commercial demand.

Patna Metro’s priority stretch connects New ISBT, Zero Mile and Bhootnath, covers about 4.3 km and began public service in early October 2025. Trains run from 8 am to 10 pm; the fare for the full stretch is up to ₹30. Two more stations on an extended elevated section are expected to open in early 2026 after checks.

Phase 1 includes the north–south Blue Line between Patna Junction and New ISBT, and the east–west Red Line between Danapur Cantonment and Khemni Chak. The Blue Line’s 7.9 km underground section runs from a ramp near Rajendra Nagar to Patna Junction, with six underground stations and four tunnel-boring machines. By late 2025, about 2 km of tunnelling remained; completion is targeted by the end of 2026, followed by systems work, testing and safety clearance. Service is expected to expand in stages after 2026.

The Bakarganj Nala Development Project under the Patna Smart City Mission is 80% complete. BUIDCO, its nodal agency, is targeting completion of the remaining work before the monsoon; the contract deadline is April-end 2026.

A 1,463-metre-long, 5-metre-wide road is being built over the drain, from a cinema hall near Rajendra Path to Anta Ghat junction on Ashok Rajpath, at a cost of nearly ₹29 crore. Twin-barrel reinforced-concrete drain boxes are being used. About 750 metres, or 60%, of drain-covering work is complete; progress is slower in narrow, congested areas because of encroachments.

The road will connect directly to the Ashok Rajpath double-decker flyover and is expected to ease congestion around Gandhi Maidan. The project also includes signage, landscaping and streetlights, and aims to reduce waterlogging and improve drainage and surroundings. Vegetable vendors near Anta Ghat will be shifted to enable construction.

Areas served include Lalji Tola, Railway Colony, Machhali Gali, Salimpur Aahra, Rajendra Path, Daldali Road, Bhawar Pokhar, Ashok Rajpath, Gandhi Maidan Gates 1–3, Gandhi Maidan Bus Stand and Ramghulam Chowk.
