Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a roadshow in Saharanpur on 14 April 2026 while travelling to inaugurate the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. The long-awaited project is set to improve road connectivity between Delhi and Dehradun.

Uttar Pradesh approved ₹32 crore to rebuild the battered 7-km Delhi-Saharanpur National Highway stretch between Loni roundabout and Pavi Sadatpur. Public Works Department officials said work would begin next month and finish within nine months. The 18-metre-wide corridor runs parallel to the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway and is intended to provide commuters a second route. Loni MLA Nand Kishore Gurjar said the road is heavily encroached and repeated efforts to clear its green belt had failed; he raised the issue with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, after which funds were released. The road is a pollution hotspot, with heavy vehicles using the corridor around the clock. In September, the National Green Tribunal issued notices to Loni Nagar Palika, the district administration and GDA after a plea by the Prem Nagar RWA concerning the road’s condition and hazardous air quality.

The Delhi–Saharanpur–Dehradun Expressway began a trial run on Monday, marking a milestone for the 213km corridor. Once completed, it is projected to reduce the Delhi–Dehradun journey from 6–6.5 hours to roughly 2–2.5 hours. The existing route passes through Meerut, Muzaffarnagar and Roorkee. Inauguration is expected soon.

A viral video posted by Instagram user @vivekpatwaa21 shows broken streetlights, smashed cameras and damaged poles on the yet-to-open Delhi–Saharanpur Expressway. The creator alleges the damage was deliberate; social media users called for action and measures to prevent further vandalism.

Built by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the 210-km expressway is designed as a six-to-twelve-lane corridor connecting Delhi with Dehradun through Baghpat, Baraut, Shamli and Saharanpur. Once inaugurated, it is expected to reduce travel time and improve connectivity between Delhi and Uttarakhand.

The 8km Delhi-Saharanpur Road stretch in Loni runs from Shiv Vihar Metro station to Tronica City, connecting the town with Delhi and Baghpat. Monsoon damage has left cratered patches that endanger thousands of daily commuters. Residents cited four problem points near Ashok Vihar, Shiv Vihar Metro station, Loni tri-crossing and Loni police station; poor drainage causes waterlogging up to 3–4 feet. A flyover project begun under the previous government stalled after pillars were erected. Residents said conditions have persisted for 7–8 years.

Loni MLA Nandkishor Gurjar said the ₹32-crore road repair project is in an action plan, with funds expected by December. He sanctioned ₹40 lakh from his local area development fund for pothole repairs. PWD said a survey is complete and repairs may start after the monsoon, but final sanction is awaited. Construction and Design Services, a unit of UP Jal Nigam, is surveying separate drainage redevelopment. The stretch, formerly part of NH-709B, is now classified as an other district road.
