Tiruchi Corporation plans to redevelop and beautify space beneath flyovers at Edamalaipatti Pudur and Mannarpuram this year, potentially creating children’s street parks.

Key facts

Solid waste has accumulated on traffic islands beneath the Crawford–Edamalaipatti Pudur flyover, where weekly shandy markets on the Edamalaipatti Pudur side add to waste. Recent underground drainage and road-widening works have damaged service lanes; safety railings are bent or uprooted. The poorly lit underbridge is used to park old two-wheelers, store scrap and gather after dark, while overgrown vegetation restricts public access. Residents said conservancy workers segregate neighbourhood waste on a traffic island and burn it at night. The bridge links two major residential neighbourhoods and is expected to connect to Panjappur as a major entry point into Tiruchi. Tiruchi Corporation said the spaces beneath the Edamalaipatti Pudur and Mannarpuram flyovers would be redeveloped and beautified through Namakku Naame Thittam this year. The corporation has takers for Mannarpuram and is finalising participants for Edamalaipatti Pudur; a children’s street park is under consideration.
