Punjab State Crime Police booked Mamta Uppal and Himanshu Uppal for allegedly defrauding multiple buyers of about ₹1.05 crore by promising to sell them the same house in Ajit Enclave, Kharar. The couple allegedly collected earnest money ranging from ₹14 lakh to ₹25 lakh from different buyers under multiple sale agreements made between 2025 and 2026. The property was registered in another person’s name, after which the accused allegedly became unreachable. The case was registered at the State Crime police station in Mohali based on a Punjab Bureau of Investigation fact sheet and complaints from multiple victims. The couple was booked under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
