Kanpur Expressway Set to Cut Lucknow Travel Time to 40 Minutes

matribhumisamachar · · Infrastructure

The Lucknow–Kanpur Expressway is slated to open in April 2026, while efforts to protect Jajmau’s ancient mound and repurpose Lal Imli continue.

Key facts

The Lucknow–Kanpur Expressway (NE-6) is slated for public rollout in April 2026. From late April, the journey between the cities is expected to fall from two hours to 35–40 minutes. The route links Amausi Airport with Kanpur’s heritage zone, including Kanpur Memorial Church and Nana Rao Park.

Artifacts including Northern Black Polished Ware and terracotta seals indicate habitation at Jajmau Mound more than 3,000 years ago. A 2026 preservation push aims to protect its 16 bighas from urban encroachment. Local tradition identifies the mound as King Yayati’s fort.

In Bithoor, Valmiki Ashram is being integrated into Ramayana Circuit tours. Efforts are also underway to repurpose Lal Imli and other red-brick textile mills as cultural hubs or lofts.
