Salem Aavin Plant Inspected After Seven-Lakh-Litre Upgrade

Ministers inspected Salem’s new seven-lakh-litre automated milk processing plant and outlined Aavin’s district operations and support for milk producers.

Tourism Minister R. Rajendran and Milk and Dairy Development Minister T. Mano Thangaraj attended a milk-producer seminar at Alagapuram’s cooperative bank community hall on June 17, 2025, and distributed ₹5.34 crore in welfare assistance to 1,787 beneficiaries.
Salem District Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Limited (Aavin), established in 1978, has 2.24 lakh members across 784 cooperative societies. It procures an average of 6.35 lakh litres daily from 46,947 producers. The Salem plant handles five lakh litres; an Attur chilling centre handles 1.30 lakh litres, and 104 district centres have bulk milk coolers. An ice cream plant operating since 2022 can produce 6,000 litres daily. Aavin has 224 parlours in educational institutions and government offices.
The ministers inspected Salem’s automated processing plant, with seven-lakh-litre capacity, inaugurated by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on June 12. Thangaraj said producers average six to seven litres daily and experts discussed technology to raise output to 10–12 litres.
