Patna Metro Extends to Malahi Pakri as Prepaid Smart Card Launches

Hindustan Times · · Infrastructure

Patna Metro opened Malahi Pakri station, extending the New ISBT route to 6.2 km and introducing a prepaid smart card for cashless travel.

Key facts

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary inaugurated Malahi Pakri station on July 2, extending Patna Metro’s North–South Blue Line from New ISBT through Zero Mile and Bhoothnath. The 6.2 km journey takes 16 minutes, costs ₹30 and runs every 35 minutes; each trip takes 35 minutes. The extension increases the route from about 3.2–3.6 km and reduces daily trips from 24 to 22; the earlier New ISBT–Bhoothnath fare was ₹15. Choudhary also launched the Patna Metro Prepaid Smart Card and travelled from Malahi Pakri to Bhoothnath. The target is to extend service to Mithapur by March 2027 and Patna Junction by the end of 2027.

Phase I, estimated at ₹13,365 crore, comprises two corridors totalling approximately 30.9 km, with 24 stations (12 elevated and 12 underground): Danapur Cantonment–Khemni Chak and Patna Junction–New ISBT. Full commissioning is targeted around 2030. Underground tunnelling and station construction are underway between Patna Junction and Moinul-Haq Stadium; six underground stations include Gandhi Maidan, PMCH, Patna University and Rajendra Nagar. Elevated sections from Danapur towards Patliputra and Mithapur towards Khemni Chak are under construction.

Patna Metro Runs 4.3-Kilometre Stretch as Expansion Continues

Muzcorner · · Infrastructure

Patna Metro’s 4.3-kilometre priority stretch is operating, while work continues on new stations and a 7.9-kilometre underground Blue Line section.

Key facts

Patna Metro’s priority stretch connects New ISBT, Zero Mile and Bhootnath, covers about 4.3 km and began public service in early October 2025. Trains run from 8 am to 10 pm; the fare for the full stretch is up to ₹30. Two more stations on an extended elevated section are expected to open in early 2026 after checks.

Phase 1 includes the north–south Blue Line between Patna Junction and New ISBT, and the east–west Red Line between Danapur Cantonment and Khemni Chak. The Blue Line’s 7.9 km underground section runs from a ramp near Rajendra Nagar to Patna Junction, with six underground stations and four tunnel-boring machines. By late 2025, about 2 km of tunnelling remained; completion is targeted by the end of 2026, followed by systems work, testing and safety clearance. Service is expected to expand in stages after 2026.
