Tourism Minister says efforts are underway to complete a rope car project at Yelagiri Hills in partnership with a private organisation to boost tourism.
Key facts
Efforts underway to complete rope car construction at Yelagiri Hills through partnership with private organisation, Tourism Minister R Rajendran said. Project discussed at Kodai Vizha summer festival, which returned after six-year gap, inaugurated by Public Works Minister E V Velu and Tourism Minister Rajendran. Velu requested substantial funds and projects beyond the rope car to develop Yelagiri comparable to Nilgiris, noting Yelagiri called "Nilgiris of the poor" and attracts mainly local tourists while real Nilgiris draws visitors from other states and abroad. State government allocates limited budgetary support for tourism but central government projects through Tourism Department may be secured if pursued. Ministers also inaugurated flower show at nature park and shop run by women's self-help groups at boathouse. Welfare measures worth Rs 1.33 crore distributed to 37 beneficiaries.
