Several parts of Delhi face severe water crisis. Water supply dropped nearly 20 percent. Wazirabad and Chandrawal water treatment plants running low. Yamuna river running dry. Scorching summer temperatures affecting supply.

Delhi Jal Board floated Rs 25 crore tender to remove 3.63 lakh cubic metres of accumulated silt from Wazirabad pond in North Delhi to increase water supply. Desilting work covers 1 km upstream from Wazirabad to Ramghat, expected to take two months. Upon completion, pond storage capacity projected to nearly double, adding approximately 100 million gallons per day (MGD) of holding space. Wazirabad water treatment plant (WTP) designed for 220 MGD capacity but currently operates at under 100 MGD due to silt accumulation. Wazirabad barrage is first interception point of Yamuna River within Delhi and feeds one of city's largest water treatment plants. Water production in capital: 927 MGD in 2020-21, grown to 990–1,000 MGD in 2024, but lags estimated demand of 1,290 MGD per Economic Survey. Water Minister Parvesh Verma announced project and visited facility to demonstrate treated water safety.

Delhi’s Public Works Department (PWD) has begun feasibility studies for a proposed 61-kilometre road corridor along the Najafgarh drain, between Dhansa Border and Wazirabad.

Delhi’s irrigation and flood control department is exploring diversion of excess monsoon water from the Yamuna into 15 Bhatti Mines pits and six floodplain sites. The pits, formed by mining between 1960 and 1990, have a stated combined capacity of 5,200 MLD (5,200,000 cubic metres per day). A Central Ground Water Board study said they could receive 4,200 million litres of surplus runoff for 60 days; officials said three fillings a year could store up to 12,600 million litres. The six floodplain sites together hold about 13,707,500 cubic metres. Sites include Old Bawana Escape (900,000 sq m; 1,350,000 cubic metres), South Old Bawana Escape (1,170,000 sq m; 1,755,000 cubic metres) and Mayur Vihar (3.12 million sq m; 4,680,000 cubic metres), plus areas near Sabapur, Wazirabad barrage and the railway and ITO bridges. The sites may not handle peak flows. The plan requires pit desilting and water-quality monitoring; polluted water could contaminate groundwater. Earlier check dams at JNU and Sanjay Van (1996–98) achieved 95%–99.7% recharge efficiency and up to 300% capacity use through repeated filling.

PM Modi inaugurated the Majlis Park-Maujpur-Babarpur section of the Pink Line and the Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park stretch of the Magenta Line on Sunday, alongside laying foundation stones for development projects worth ₹33,500 crore in Delhi.

Pink Line: Extended to 71.56 kilometres, completing India's first fully operational "ring metro" around Delhi. Stations on this stretch: Burari, Jharoda Majra, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Soorghat, Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar, Maujpur-Babarpur. Features a new bridge over the Yamuna and double-decker viaduct carrying metro track and road flyover. Strengthens connectivity between north-east and north-west Delhi.

Magenta Line: Extended to approximately 49 kilometres. Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park stretch includes seven elevated stations: Madhuban Chowk, Uttar Pitampura-Prashant Vihar, Haiderpur Village, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Bhalswa.

Foundation stones laid for three Phase 5(A) corridors: Central Vista corridor (9.913km underground, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha), Golden Line extension to IGI Airport Terminal-1 (2.263km underground), Golden Line extension Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj (3.9km elevated). Expected to strengthen links to NCR cities: Noida, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh.

Foundation stones also laid for GPRA colonies redevelopment worth ₹15,200 crore. Delhi CM Rekha Gupta stated metro expansion improves public transport; 2025-26 budget prioritises public transport.
