Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi met villagers from Khed and Maval on November 3 and promised to seek a solution to objections over land acquisition for the proposed Talegaon Dabhade–Uruli Kanchan railway line. A meeting with railway officials is scheduled for November 7 to consider whether the route can be altered and how to prevent farmers’ losses. Villagers from more than 15 villages across Khed, Maval and Haveli oppose the plan, saying it crosses residential areas and that industrial growth, including at Chakan MIDC, has reduced available open land. The route was surveyed in 2023. Attendees included Khed MLA Babaji Kale, former MLA Dilip Mohite and Land Acquisition Coordinator Dr Kalyan Pandhare. Villagers may meet Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and plan a roadblock protest or hunger strikes if their demands are not met.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar proposed extending the metro route to Uruli Kanchan instead of stopping at Loni Kalbhor, citing Pune’s rising population and traffic bottlenecks on the Pune–Solapur highway. Pune Metro currently covers 33 km, with another 33 km under construction. Maha-Metro’s Comprehensive Mobility Plan for the Pune Metropolitan Region envisions 312 km of metro and metro-light corridors by 2054, alongside upgrades to roads, bus rapid transit, cycling and pedestrian infrastructure. Pune Metro Director (Works) Atul Gadgil said feasibility would be studied in phases and a detailed project report prepared; PMRDA must then submit a request to continue the process. Uruli Kanchan, known for the BAIF research centre and agriculture, is urbanising rapidly. Officials say an extension could ease congestion, improve eastern regional connectivity and support economic growth.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis approved extending the Hadapsar-Yavat flyover on National Highway 65 by shifting its starting point from Hadapsar to Bhairoba Nala, adding 4.5 kilometres. Total project cost is ₹5,262 crore; cabinet approved the original proposal in June. Project to be carried out by Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) on build-operate-transfer (BOT) model. Frequent traffic congestion occurs at Bhairoba Nala on the Pune-Solapur route; removing the Argha bus rapid transit (BRT) lane did not ease the situation. The extended flyover is expected to reduce pressure on the stretch and reduce travel time to Yavat, Uruli Kanchan, Patas and Solapur.

• Villagers have protested the proposed railway line from Talegaon Dabhade to Uruli Kanchan, asking that it be shifted elsewhere.
• They say much of their land has already been acquired for MIDC and ring road projects, and the new rail line will take the remaining land.
• In June, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced a new railway line to connect Talegaon to Shikrapur via Uruli Kanchan in the first phase, and Shikrapur to Daund later.
• The proposed corridor will run parallel to development on Pune’s outer ring road.
• Farmers and residents of Kuruli, Nighoje, Moi, Chimbali, Dehu Gaon and other villages oppose the project and want it bypassed elsewhere.
• Rohan Gaikwad of Kuruli said the government has already acquired land for MIDC industries and Pune’s ring road, leaving negligible land.
• He said the rail line would force the entire village to shift and leave villagers without an earning resource.
• Sonu Yelwande of Nighoje said the project would destroy farm lands, schools, age-old temples and houses.
• The Lonavala-Pune railway line expansion is said to improve use of the outer railway bypass for traffic management, boost industrial activity in Chakan and Bhosari MIDC, increase transport infrastructure in the region, and reduce pressure on Pune Railway Junction.
• Villagers have met political leaders including Sharad Pawar, Ramdas Athawale, Appa Barne, Sunil Shelke and the PMRDA chief, and passed resolutions through their Grampanchayats.

Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) submitted the Detailed Project Report for the proposed Nigdi–Chakan metro line to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The 35–40-kilometre route would start at Bhakti-Shakti Chowk in Nigdi and extend to Chakan, connecting nearly 75% of Pimpri-Chinchwad. MLA Shankar Jagtap confirmed the submission on August 12, 2025. The line is expected to provide commuters travelling to Chakan MIDC and other commercial areas with a reliable, green transport option, improve connectivity along the industrial belt and support industry and the local economy. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has also suggested extending the metro network from Loni Kalbhor to Uruli Kanchan to address congestion on the Pune–Solapur Highway and support urban growth.
