Jaipur Metro Revises Line 1C Extension With Two Stations
Native Planet · · Infrastructure
JMRC’s revised 2.85-km Jaipur Metro extension replaces Ramganj Chaupar station with underground and elevated stations at Galta-ji Crossing and Transport Nagar.
Key facts
- Jaipur Metro Railway Corporation (JMRC) has revised the 2.85-km Pink Line 1C extension from Badi Chaupar to Transport Nagar, dropping the previously proposed Ramganj Chaupar station.
- The new plan keeps the line underground from Badi Chaupar beneath the Walled City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to an underground station at Galta-ji Crossing on Delhi Road. It then becomes elevated and ends at Transport Nagar.
- JMRC chairman and managing director Vaibhav Galriya confirmed the revised alignment. Officials cited heritage protection, reduced surface construction, traffic disruption and inconvenience to residents and shopkeepers, and said Galta-ji may attract more passengers.
- The extension received financial approval for Rs 993.51 crore in November 2022; former chief minister Ashok Gehlot laid its foundation stone in September 2023.
- After the BJP government took office, the project was put on hold for a feasibility review. The government considered diverting it towards Amer Road via Hawa Mahal Road, drawing criticism from Congress leaders.
- Congress MLA Rafeek Khan questioned removing Ramganj Chaupar, arguing the proposed stations are also not far apart. Both Ramganj Chaupar and Galta-ji fall within Adarsh Nagar Assembly constituency.
