The Thiruvagoundanur-Kandampatti stretch (2.7 km) on the Salem-Coimbatore National Highway has seen more than 10 deaths in accidents over three months. The stretch connects Salem-Bengaluru, Salem-Coimbatore, and Salem-Chennai National Highways and experiences heavy daily traffic. Accidents involving two-wheelers are common due to several flyovers on the stretch. Residents report non-functional street lights, poor road maintenance, sand accumulation causing two-wheeler skids, and absence of speed breakers. NHAI officials stated the issue was discussed at monthly road safety meetings and the Corporation was instructed to improve street light maintenance. The civic body assured NHAI that suggestions would be implemented. Officials noted that an outer bypass project starting soon will reduce vehicle traffic on the stretch.
