Velampeta Slum Redevelopment to Provide Flats for 177 Families

Visakhapatnam has begun a ₹28.44 crore in-situ redevelopment at Velampeta, providing 177 families with 410-square-foot flats within nine months.

Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana laid the foundation stone on September 9, 2026, for the ₹28.44 crore Velampeta slum redevelopment near Lakshmi Nagar in One Town, Visakhapatnam. The State’s first in-situ slum redevelopment will provide 177 families with flats of about 410 sq ft each, valued at about ₹20 lakh, in multi-storeyed blocks on the existing site. Construction will use shear-wall technology. The deadline is nine months; the Chief Minister is expected to inaugurate the project by the end of next July. Families signed promissory notes before vacating and receive ₹3,000 monthly rent support; each has received ₹18,000 for six months. Narayana said similar projects would be taken up elsewhere in Andhra Pradesh.

The three-day 11th Visakhapatnam Property Expo 2025, organised by the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI), opened Friday at Gadiraju Palace on Beach Road. Its 71 stalls showcase residential apartments, villas, open plots, commercial spaces, and affordable and premium housing. Banks and financial institutions are offering home loans with special discounts, competitive interest rates and instant approvals.
MSME Minister Kondapalli Srinivas said government reforms had supported construction-sector growth and employment. CREDAI Visakhapatnam chapter chairman V. Dharmender said the expo brings developers, bankers and other stakeholders together to help buyers assess options. Chapter president E. Ashok Kumar cited faster approvals and greater transparency as reforms benefiting Andhra Pradesh’s real estate sector.
The K. Subba Raju Memorial Awards went to the top three diploma civil engineering students at Government Polytechnic College, Visakhapatnam, and the top two meritorious students in the Draftsman Civil trade at Government ITI.
