Bihar CM Inspects Flood Relief Camps in Hajipur and Sonpur

Asian News International · · Infrastructure

Samrat Choudhary inspected flood relief camps in Hajipur and Sonpur, promised compensation for crop losses and said officials were assessing damage.

Key facts

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary inspected relief camps in flood-affected Vaishali and Saran districts, including camps in Hajipur and Sonpur. In Hajipur, he reviewed food distribution, registration, education, accommodation, medical and veterinary facilities, and provided ₹4 lakh each to dependants of people who drowned. In Sonpur, he visited the Scout and Guide Centre camp and reviewed food and accommodation.

Choudhary said the Ganga’s water level had fallen around 17–18 centimetres, while about 15 lakh cusecs were still being discharged from Farakka Barrage. He said conditions might improve over the next two to three days. Household damage and crop losses would be assessed after conditions normalise, with relief and farmer compensation to follow. Discussions with the Central Water Commission covered containing the Ganga within a defined stretch to address recurring floods. Relief camps, community kitchens and medical facilities were operating for displaced people.
