170 Nagpur Families Receive Freehold Ownership Documents for Homes

Indiatimes · · Residential

Nagpur authorities issued freehold ownership documents to 170 Sindhi refugee and slum-dwelling families, formally recognising their homes after decades without legal title.

Key facts

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union minister Nitin Gadkari handed freehold ownership documents to 170 families in Nagpur on Saturday, making them legal owners of homes they had occupied for decades. Many recipients were Sindhi families whose wait for formal ownership began after Partition. Shobha Hotchand Bhagiya of Khamla said her in-laws migrated to India in 1946 and settled there; the family had lived in the same house for nearly eight decades without legal title.
