Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) announced extension of Mumbai Metro Line 12 under new project Metro Line 12A along Kalyan–Shilphata corridor. Administrative approval of Rs 8,414.53 crore cleared under guidance of Maharashtra deputy chief minister and urban development minister Eknath Shinde. Move aimed at improving transport links between Kalyan-Dombivli, Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Mumbai. MMRDA allocated nearly Rs 5,000 crore for multiple ongoing infrastructure projects across Kalyan Lok Sabha constituency. MP Shrikant Shinde conducted inspection of works in progress including Metro Line 12 (Kalyan–Taloja), Mumbai Metro Line 5, elevated flyovers, and ring road network phases.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority approved Metro Line 12 extension through a new corridor parallel to Kalyan-Shilphata Road in Thane district at ₹8,414.53 crore cost. The extended corridor, Metro Line 12A, will link Kalyan with Taloja via Katai Naka, Desai Naka, Kalyan Phata and Dahisar Mori. The 18.4-km revised corridor includes 12 elevated stations at Manpada, Katai Naka, Kalyan Growth Centre, Desai Naka, Padle Gaon, Kalyan Phata, Gotheghar, Dahisar Mori, Dahisar Gaon, Kiravali, Rohinjan and Khutare village. About 10.5 km of alignment is already under construction. The project will provide interconnectivity with Metro Lines 5 and 14, proposed high-speed rail station at Thane, and Nilje depot, using a precast twin 'U' girder system on single-pier design. A separate ₹5,909.21 crore double-decker elevated corridor approved between Kalyan Phata and Rajnoli in Bhiwandi (19.40 km) with lower deck for road traffic and upper deck for metro rail. The corridor integrates with Metro Lines 5, 12, 12A and 14, includes two railway overbridges and major bridges across Desai Creek and Ulhas river.
