Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated a ₹325 crore MLA residential complex in Sector 17, Gandhinagar, built by the Gujarat Government’s Roads and Buildings Department. It covers 28,576 sq m; each 238.45 sq m residence has three bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, office and servant’s room. The complex has a garden, 300-person multipurpose hall, community hall, swimming pool, gym, canteen, indoor sports facilities, dispensary and provision store. Each unit has two parking spaces. Of 216 residences in 12 blocks, 180 units in 10 blocks have fixed and movable furniture; 36 units have fixed furniture only. Internal roads are RCC.

Earlier MLA residences in Sector 17, built in 1970-71, measured 41.46 sq m and had one bedroom, drawing room, kitchen and toilet. In 1990-91, 168 three-storey homes were built in 14 blocks in Sector 21; each measured 85.30 sq m and had two bedrooms, drawing room and kitchen.
