Chandigarh will prepare an 8–10-acre trial concert facility opposite IRB Sarangpur, with mobile washrooms, parking and emergency exits. Events for 5,000–8,000 attendees are planned, with the first expected within two months. The pilot will assess crowd management, traffic, parking, emergency response and feasibility; the land may be expanded in phases. The administration’s permanent plan is a 25-acre concert-cum-exhibition hub for national and international events, expected to take around six months to execute. Environmental clearance is still pending. Sarangpur was selected for its peripheral location and open space, after venue constraints and traffic complaints led concerts to shift to Mohali and Panchkula. Sector 34 events in December 2024 featuring Karan Aujla and Diljit Dosanjh caused congestion, noise and business disruption. The Punjab and Haryana High Court permitted a concert subject to a 75-decibel sound limit. Authorities later stopped approving large Sector 34 events; an AP Dhillon concert shifted to Sector 25 drew limited organiser interest.

The Chandigarh administration is preparing an open ground in Sarangpur for concerts, exhibitions and other gatherings of more than 5,000 people. The tourism department is overseeing the interim venue, which is expected to be ready within two months and modelled on the Sector 34 exhibition ground. A proposed 25-acre concert-and-exhibition centre at the site would take about six months to complete. Vegetation clearance and land levelling have begun.

Sarangpur’s outskirts location and open space are expected to reduce traffic and parking problems. The venue aims to attract events that have moved to Panchkula and Mohali. Large gatherings at Sector 34 were restricted after congestion, noise and business disruption during concerts in December 2024. Karan Aujla performed there on December 7 and Diljit Dosanjh on December 14; the latter was subject to a court directive enforcing the 75-decibel noise limit. AP Dhillon’s December 21 concert moved to Sector 25. An Arijit Singh concert in November 2023 faced initial police refusal over parking, but was later permitted.

PGI Chandigarh’s Vision 2047 plan proposes a dedicated underground tunnel linking its main campus with its upcoming 50-acre Sarangpur satellite centre, alongside free internal metro services for patients and logistics. The proposal is undergoing feasibility assessment and will be submitted to the Union health ministry. PGI director Prof Vivek Lal said the link would ease traffic and crowding. It could let ambulances bypass Madhya Marg and transfer unstable patients in minutes, compared with 30–45 minutes at peak times. The tunnel could also carry pneumatic systems for samples, biopsies and critical drugs, and help staff travel between campuses. Sarangpur is planned to host primary screening OPDs and a 100-seat MBBS college. PGI’s emergency occupancy is 200%, daily OPD footfall exceeds 10,000, and parking accommodates no more than 4,000 vehicles. Three more centres—Advanced Neuroscience Centre, Mother and Child Centre, and Critical Care Block—are planned; the main campus has no space for new faculty offices.

• Chandigarh administration plans to develop a state-of-the-art concert centre on 25 acres in Sarangpur for national and international events and cultural exchange. UT chief secretary H Rajesh Prasad announced the project during his Republic Day address.
• Prasad said the city had completed the final phase of its slum-eradication initiative, removing unauthorised colonies from government land through due process and large-scale rehabilitation. The administration has reclaimed nearly 520 acres of government land valued at about ₹21,000 crore and provided thousands of residents with housing and improved living conditions.
• Under the Green Urban Mobility initiative, 428 electric buses were approved under the Pradhan Mantri E-Bus Sewa Scheme to replace diesel buses in the Tri-City. Agreements for the first 100 buses have been signed; 15 have been delivered. Charging substations rated at 66 kV, modern depots and upgraded workshops are under development.
