Kanpur Approves ₹988.30 Crore Elevated Corridor From Ramadevi to Gol Chauraha

Kanpur approved a ₹988.30 crore, 10.160-kilometre four-lane elevated corridor from Ramadevi to Gol Chauraha to ease congestion on old NH-91.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced the approval on 24 February 2026, calling the project a major benefit for Kanpur’s five million residents. The four-lane corridor will run 10.160 kilometres along old National Highway 91, from Ramadevi to Gol Chauraha, at a cost of ₹988.30 crore.

The 10.85-kilometre GT Road route has 18 railway crossings, which frequently cause traffic jams; journeys that normally take 10 minutes can take an hour during peak periods. Five locations have been identified for interchanges to let motorists enter and exit the elevated road. The project aims to divert traffic and reduce congestion and travel times. Construction requires clearances from the Forest and Environment Department and the Railway Ministry.
