Patna Metro’s alignment near Patna Zoo is set for a minor change so underground construction does not touch the zoo boundary. The design adjustment is not a major project change. Patna Metro Rail Corporation managing director Sandeep Kumar R Pudkalkatti reviewed design and construction plans with officials and agencies; the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, the project’s nodal agency, was asked to prepare the revised alignment. The change aims to avoid clearance delays and keep underground tunnelling within the road corridor.

Khemnichak, currently a pass-through station, is targeted to become operational in November 2026. The underground section is under construction and covers Rajendra Nagar, Moin-ul-Haq Stadium, Patna University, PMCH, Gandhi Maidan, Akashvani and Patna Junction.

Bihar sanctioned ₹628.32 crore for the Patna Metro Rail Project under the Centre’s Special Assistance Scheme for Capital Investment for 2026–27. Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited will receive the funds, primarily for underground station tunnelling and excavation at Patna Junction, Akashvani, Gandhi Maidan, PMCH, Patna Science College, Moin-ul-Haq Stadium and Rajendra Nagar. Funding will also support elevated works at Malahi Pakri, Khemnichak, Bhootnath, Zero Mile, Mithapur, Ramkrishan Nagar and Jaganpura, and clear pending contractor payments. Further funding is expected in phases as construction milestones are verified.

Bihar’s first mass rapid transit system is a two-corridor network spanning nearly 31 km and 24 stations, with an approved cost of ₹13,925 crore: 20% funded by the Centre, 20% by Bihar and 60% through Japan-backed JICA loans. The lines interchange at Patna Junction and Khemnichak. A 3.6-km elevated Blue Line stretch between Bhootnath, Zero Mile and New ISBT is operating under DMRC’s operations and maintenance arrangement. DMRC has tendered automatic fare collection systems for all 24 stations. Areas near stations are attracting developer and homebuyer attention, with potential for stronger housing, rental and commercial demand.

Patna Metro’s priority stretch connects New ISBT, Zero Mile and Bhootnath, covers about 4.3 km and began public service in early October 2025. Trains run from 8 am to 10 pm; the fare for the full stretch is up to ₹30. Two more stations on an extended elevated section are expected to open in early 2026 after checks.

Phase 1 includes the north–south Blue Line between Patna Junction and New ISBT, and the east–west Red Line between Danapur Cantonment and Khemni Chak. The Blue Line’s 7.9 km underground section runs from a ramp near Rajendra Nagar to Patna Junction, with six underground stations and four tunnel-boring machines. By late 2025, about 2 km of tunnelling remained; completion is targeted by the end of 2026, followed by systems work, testing and safety clearance. Service is expected to expand in stages after 2026.

A section of Patna’s 2.2-km double-deck flyover reportedly sank on Sunday after heavy rain, two months after its inauguration. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated it on June 11. Built by Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation Limited for ₹422 crore, the flyover runs from Kargil Chowk at Gandhi Maidan to Science College via Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), and is intended to ease congestion on Ashok Rajpath.

Ashok Rajpath is planned to have four levels: two flyover tiers, a ground-level service road and an underground metro. Heavy rain caused waterlogging in Kankarbagh, Rajendra Nagar, Exhibition Road and Gandhi Maidan. The Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for 48 hours for Patna and several other Bihar districts.

On May 21, 2025, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inspected the ongoing road construction and underground drainage project from Saidpur Nala to Pahari, including the drainage pumping station at Pahari, the drain near Sheetla Mandir flyover and Saidpur Nala. He asked officials to expedite construction and properly renovate the nala. The four-lane road above it is intended to ease congestion in Saidpur, Rajendra Nagar, Musallahpur Haat, Gaighat and Pahari, and provide an alternative connection to the New Patna Bypass.
