Raj Nagar Extension link road remains unfinished in Ghaziabad

A 2.7-km proposed link road in Raj Nagar Extension has remained largely unbuilt since 2014, leaving residents, schools and colleges dependent on a damaged 5-metre stretch.

  • In Raj Nagar Extension, Ghaziabad, a 2.7-km link road proposed about a decade ago as a 24-metre road to connect Delhi-Meerut Road and the Outer Ring Road remains in poor condition.
  • Only about 5 metres of the proposed width exists; officials said it was originally a village chak road and was blacktopped only once many years ago.
  • The road serves seven high-rises, three schools and two educational colleges, and residents say it has faced no proper construction since plans began in 2014.
  • Residents said heavy vehicles, developer ready-mix plant traffic, no streetlights and no drainage system make the route unsafe; waterlogging affects the college, and potholes are about two feet deep.
  • GDA said it needs to acquire land by direct purchase from landowners for about ₹60 crore, with another ₹28 crore required for road construction, streetlights and drainage.
  • Officials said they are seeking consent from landowners, have started pothole-filling, and expect work to begin by December-end or January after land procurement is completed.
  • The road is currently called “Hum Tum Road” because of a restaurant near the Delhi-Meerut Road entrance; GDA said it will be renamed after proper construction.
  • GDA said Raj Nagar Extension is the only one of its eight zones with a proper zonal plan.
