The digital survey for the Thammanam-Pullepady Road project began July 2, 2026. The project aims to construct a 3.7-km-long four-lane road linking MG Road with the Edappally-Vyttila NH 66 Bypass, passing through Pullepady and Thammanam. The road corridor was included in Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) projects in 2017, with the Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB) taking over from Kochi Corporation. The State government accorded administrative sanction of ₹100 crore. In 1998, 83 landowners voluntarily surrendered 2.53 acres. A separate UDF-led government sanctioned ₹25 crore over a decade ago, which widened much of the Katrikadavu-Stadium Link Road corridor to four lanes. The current phase requires acquisition of nine acres from around 500 landowners. Completion of the digital survey is necessary for issuing 11(1) and 19(1) notifications to disburse compensation and take land possession. The Nandanath Kochacko Road, which links the NH Bypass with Thammanam, remains trenched and improperly restored, causing difficulties for motorists and pedestrians.

The Thammanam–Pullepady road widening project has progressed with state government approval for additional land acquisition. The project involves developing a nearly 4km stretch as an east–west corridor through Kochi. The four-lane project aims to ease congestion in the city's core areas and requires acquisition of 3.92 hectares. Plans include widening Pullepady bridge to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow. The approval came after the government approved the social impact assessment (SIA) study, with the revenue department issuing an official notification on Dec 24, 2025.

Final social impact assessment (SIA) report on land acquisition for Thammanam-Pullepady road development was submitted. Report recommended government acquire 3.9 hectares as the four-lane road project was essential to resolve traffic congestion on Banerjee Road and Sahodaran Ayyappan Road.

Existing plan develops the currently 5-m-wide carriageway road into a four-lane configuration: 7-m-wide carriageway on each side, 1.2m median, sidewalks and drainage on both sides.

Upon completion, project will reduce travel time, fuel loss from traffic jams and environmental pollution. MG Road runs parallel through villages of Ernakulam, Elamkulam, Poonithura and Edappally South.

Report noted concerns from landowners and residents about proposed new overpass south of existing Pullepady railway overpass. Land acquisition will affect houses, properties and businesses of local residents. Appropriate resettlement and rehabilitation packages should be provided per laws and regulations.

The Thammanam-Pullepady road development project, spanning 3.68 km, aims to improve east-west connectivity in Ernakulam by developing a four-lane highway connecting MG Road and the National Highway bypass.
