Gomathipuram Residents Seek Street Lighting and Drainage Improvements

Gomathipuram residents urged Madurai Corporation to improve lighting, roads, drainage and waste collection, and asked the government to restore Vandiyur Tank.
Key facts
At its annual meeting on Sunday, the Gomathipuram Thendral Nagar Residents Association urged Madurai Corporation to install a high-mast lamp on Sixth Main Road, curb stray dogs and replace 20-watt LED lights with 40-watt bulbs. It sought road milling to government specifications, preservation of original road levels, legal action against illegal sewage connections, clearance of blocked manholes and raising newly installed underground drainage manholes. Members requested household garbage collection at least three times a week and relocation of 11 dustbins on Malligai East Street. They asked the government to desilt and deepen Vandiyur Tank and put into use a sewage treatment plant built for ₹6 crore to stop sewage entering the tank from Pudur through the Industrial Estate. The association thanked MLA A. Kallanai for steps taken at Vandiyur Park.
