Ghaziabad property tax defaulters face action and penalties

Ghaziabad municipal corporation will take action against 94,920 property owners who defaulted on 2024-25 taxes, imposing 12% interest and potential service disconnections from April 1.

At least 94,920 property owners failed to pay property tax for FY 2024-25 in Ghaziabad; the civic body is yet to recover ₹40-45 crore. Property tax includes house tax, water tax, and sewage/drainage tax. Officials assessed 452,000 properties including 51,856 commercial properties.

FY 2024-25 property tax revenue: ₹350 crore (vs ₹294.95 crore in 2023-24, ₹206.67 crore in 2022-23, ₹175.47 crore in 2021-22).

Defaulters will pay 12% interest on due amounts from April 1. The civic body may seal premises or disconnect water and sewer connections for regular defaulters.

FY 2025-26 rebates: 20% if paid April 1-July 31; 10% if paid August 1-September 30; 5% if paid October 1-November 30; no rebate thereafter.

The civic body approved a ₹3,722 crore budget (highest ever) for more infrastructure development. Budget progression: ₹1,417 crore (2022-23), ₹1,684 crore (2023-24), ₹2,465 crore (2024-25).
