The fire brigade was informed; no injuries or property damage were reported. Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation officials said rain loosened the soil around a tree, but there was no significant soil movement or structural threat and no landslide. NatConnect Foundation and Save Belapur Hills Forum called the incident a warning and urged action to protect the fragile hill ecosystem. NatConnect director B N Kumar raised the issue with Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and said the Forest Department had previously confirmed the area falls under CIDCO’s jurisdiction. Activists and residents allege land grabbers are building illegal slums and religious structures on the hills. Despite two human-chain protests and meetings with CIDCO officials, including its Chief Vigilance Officer, they say no effective action has been taken against encroachment or deforestation. Environmentalists called for an immediate geological survey and strict monitoring.
