Two workers, B. Trinadh (24) and V. Venkatesh (34), were killed in an explosion at a Dakshin Energy unit in Parawada Industrial Park, Anakapalli district, near Visakhapatnam's Pharma City, early on Tuesday June 23, 2026. About seven people work at the unit; only the two who died were on night shift. The unit makes plastic pyrolysis oil and carbon black from waste plastic. The explosion is suspected to have occurred during processing of waste plastic for pyrolysis oil in the boiler; cause not yet determined and will be settled after Factories department inquiry. The blast occurred around 5:30 a.m., set off a fire sending thick smoke and flames skyward, caused panic in the industrial area. Four fire tenders from Anakapalli and Parawada took more than 90 minutes to extinguish the fire. Anakapalli District Collector Vijaya Krishnan monitored response and directed officials to contain fire and prevent spread to nearby units. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed grief, sought details from district officials, asked administration to extend support to affected families. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan sought details from District Collector, called for immediate safety audit at all units in industrial areas around Visakhaputnam and review of accident prevention steps. Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha spoke to District Collector and Superintendent of Police for details, directed officials to speed relief. Labour Minister Vasamsetti Subhash ordered full inquiry into cause and said strict action would follow against anyone found negligent. Former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed grief, called for full inquiry, strict enforcement of safety rules, and financial support for victims' families. CITU leader G. Satyanarayana raised concern over repeated accidents despite government safety assurances.
