Construction of the 3.877 km elevated road corridor from Rajiv Gandhi Square to Indira Gandhi Square in Puducherry is expected to begin in October. The Public Works Department has handed the site to the contractor, a joint venture of T & T Infra Limited and Dhariwal Buildtech Limited, selected by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The Central government will fund the full ₹436 crore cost. The foundation was laid by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in October last year; execution was delayed by Assembly elections.
The corridor will run from near Pakkumudiyanpet to Cuddalore Road, beyond Indira Gandhi Square, including approach ramps. A circular flyover at Indira Gandhi Square will connect to the bus stand area and Villupuram Road. At Rajiv Gandhi Square, one flyover link will lead towards Tindivanam Road. Officials will prepare a traffic-management plan with police and the contractor. Tree removal has been cleared, with plans to minimise damage. Completion is expected in about 30 months.
