Kharghar Water Shortage Leaves Housing Societies Dependent on Tankers

Kharghar requires about 80 MLD of water a day but is receiving 10 MLD less. Residents, especially in sectors 30–38, face severe shortages; societies use motor pumps and depend on tankers. Water comes from Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and Hetawane Dam.

Arihant Anya in Sector 35, with 163 flats, bought 35 tankers in eight days, at four to five tankers a day and about ₹2,700 each. Hyde Park and Mahavir Heritage also face shortages. An association representative said officials had promised improvement by 23 April, but conditions remained unchanged two weeks later. CIDCO had pledged not to issue new pipe connections until supply improved, but residents say the commitment was not kept.

CIDCO and Panvel Municipal Corporation supply water by tanker. The scheme’s stated rate is ₹125 for 12,500 litres, but residents complain that monitoring is inadequate and tankers do not reach every society.
