Cricketer Virat Kohli and actor-producer Anushka Sharma jointly bought a 21,010 sq metre land parcel in Zirad village, Alibaug, Raigad district, for ₹37.86 crore. The sale deed was registered on January 13, 2026, according to a report by The Free Press Journal.
What the deed shows
The Free Press Journal reported in January 2026 that the couple paid ₹2.27 crore in stamp duty. The seller is named as Sonali Amit Rajput, while Samira Land Assets Private Limited is listed as the confirming party.
The parcel covers two adjoining plots and measures a little over five acres. CNN-News18 reported in January 2026 that it spans about 5.1 acres. The purchase adds to land the couple already own in Alibaug. News18 said they own another eight acres there, bought for about ₹19 crore, as well as a villa.
The Free Press Journal said Alibaug has become a preferred destination for high-net-worth buyers seeking large land holdings and second homes. It attributed this to improved connectivity and premium residential development, and said the Atal Setu sea bridge and RoRo ferry service have reduced travel time from Mumbai.
Who is affected
This is a large-ticket land transaction. It is relevant mainly to owners of large parcels and farmhouse plots near the coast, as well as buyers seeking second homes in the area.
Other celebrity purchases have also been reported in the market. Business Standard reported in October 2025 that Amitabh Bachchan bought three land parcels in Alibaug. MSN reported in June 2026 that Kannada actor Yash and Radhika Pandit reportedly bought beachfront land there for about ₹24 crore.
Asking prices in Alibag
Asking prices on PropertyWala put residential land in Alibag at about ₹9,554 per sq ft (2023 Q1 to 2026 Q2).1 The average for land in Raigad is about ₹4,109 per sq ft, making Alibag about 132.5% dearer than the district.
Independent houses in Alibag are on offer at about ₹9,310 per sq ft (2021 Q1 to 2022 Q3), compared with a Raigad average of about ₹3,974.
Listings in Alibag are dominated by residential land, with independent houses making up the rest. A few ready projects are also listed in the locality. Sarjetkot fort and Kulaba Fort are each about 3 km from the town. Navi Mumbai International Airport is about 60 km away by road.
However, reviewers on the locality page, whose comments date from 2013 to 2019, cite the state of the roads as a drawback.
