Comprehensive Support Beyond Education

Beyond primary education, the Trust also offers a range of essential services. They furnish healthcare facilities, ensuring the children's well-being. They also provide nutritious meals, essential study materials, uniforms, and vocational training programs, which aim to empower these children and young adults towards a better future. These programs specifically focus on supporting the rehabilitation of street and slum children, offering a crucial safety net and pathway to a brighter future.

Government Support and Recognition

The Story Behind Piya Charitable Trust

Sudha Sharma, a retired Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, established the Trust in memory of her younger daughter, Piya, who tragically passed away in a road accident at the age of nine. Sharma has dedicated herself to honoring her daughter's memory through this impactful organization. She has received consistent backing from her elder daughter, Puja Sharma, and Kiran Jagat, wife of retired DGP Jagat, in managing the NGO for the past nine years. Their concerted efforts have played a vital role in the continuous development of the Trust.

Impact of the Real Estate Boom

Puja Sharma, Project Director, highlighted how the burgeoning real estate business has created numerous employment opportunities for migrant laborers. While this growth is beneficial for the industry, it also underscores the increasing need for support systems for the families of these workers. The Trust diligently works to address this critical need, providing valuable assistance.

Reaching Out to Children in Need

The NGO currently extends its services to nearly one hundred and fifty slum children in Panchkula and an additional thirty children in Silver City. This represents the Trust's commitment to impacting communities beyond Zirakpur. The trust has fifteen paid staff members and dozens of volunteers. This combined human resource works tirelessly to provide the crucial support detailed above.
