DDA Relaxes Norms for Installing Lifts

Easier Lift Installations in DDA Flats

Residents of second and third-floor DDA flats in Delhi can now bid farewell to arduous stair climbs. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA), responsible for fulfilling the city's housing needs for over four decades, has streamlined the process for installing lifts in its apartment blocks. These structures, typically comprising four floors, were originally constructed without lifts.

Previous Hurdles and New Regulations

While flat owners were previously permitted to install lifts independently, the procedure was cumbersome, requiring the consent of every owner in a block, typically consisting of eight to sixteen flats. This often proved to be a major obstacle.

The revised regulations stipulate that a majority of flat owners in a block must agree for lift installation to proceed. Significantly, the consent of ground-floor residents is no longer mandatory. The DDA has recognized the need for improved accessibility and has amended its rules accordingly. This change promises to make a substantial difference to the lives of many residents.

Cost and Application Process

The estimated cost of installing a lift is between ₹10-15 lakhs. The financial responsibility for a lift installation project will fall upon the flat owners. To initiate the process, flat owners must apply to the DDA for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for any outstanding dues. Alongside their application, they must submit a structural stability certificate from a registered architect, ensuring the building's integrity and safety. This comprehensive approach ensures that both convenience and safety are prioritized in these housing developments. This initiative by the DDA marks a significant improvement in the quality of life for residents living on upper floors, transforming their daily experience.
