The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has revealed plans to develop 9,980 residential apartments specifically for the economically disadvantaged residents of the city. In the near future, these apartments will be constructed at 29 distinct locations throughout various parts of Ahmedabad.

Of the total, the AMC intends to build 5,092 houses designated for the Economic Weaker Sections (EWS), and 4,887 houses will be allocated for the Low-Income Group (LIG) segment. These housing schemes are slated for launch in diverse areas, encompassing Vejalpur, Nikol, Chandkheda, Chandlodia, Thaltej, Kali, Kankaria, and Shahibag, among others. The land earmarked for this crucial housing project is found in the approved town planning proposals. The civic body furthermore intends to utilize 20% of land freed from closed mills to further these essential housing projects.

To be eligible for an EWS house, which offers a living space of 28 square meters, the prospective family must demonstrate an annual income below Rs one lakh. These residential dwellings will be provided to the beneficiary at a cost of Rs three lakh each. It is important to note that the applicant is required to submit Rs 8,500 at the time of application.

Concerning the LIG scheme houses, boasting a total area of 45 square meters, the family’s income must fall within the range of Rs one lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh to qualify. The estimated cost for the LIG houses is between Rs 10.50 lakh and Rs 11.50 lakh. During the application for allotment, the applicant will be required to pay Rs 20,000.

Under the proposal, a recipient of a house is restricted from selling or renting out their unit for a period of seven years. Moreover, the allottee is obligated to pay a minimum of 20% of the total cost upfront, with the remaining balance payable in 10 installments.
