Robert Varda
New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India has declined to entertain a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry regarding licenses granted to various developers, including Robert Vadra, for constructing colonies in Haryana.
In a decisive move, the apex court dismissed the plea specifically targeting Vadra, noting that the petition lacked the inclusion of other names. The court remarked that this action appeared to be a deliberate attempt at garnering cheap publicity.
The Bench further inquired why the petition focused solely on one individual. It urged the petitioner to provide the names of additional parties involved in the matter. "Just because Varda is associated with a political family, he cannot be labeled as a sinner," the court stated.
In its deliberations, the Bench also posed questions to advocate ML Sharma, the plaintiff in this case, who had sought to have the Supreme Court overturn a decision made by the State Government. The judges acknowledged Sharma’s contributions on several issues in the past.
It is important to note that Sharma's petition did not target anyone aside from Vadra, with the focus being primarily on Vadra's involvement. Additionally, the petition called for the reversal of an order that halted the inquiry into licenses for colonies issued to Skylight Hospitality Private Ltd.
