Enhancing Transparency in Stamp Duty Collection
To establish clarity and minimize corruption in the collection of stamp duty, the Department of Registration and Stamps is making significant strides towards digitalizing property assessment and making it publicly accessible.
Online Property Valuation Module
Dr. Ramaswami N, Inspector General of Registration and Controller of Stamps, revealed to DNA, "We will launch an online module for property valuation by the people. They will be able to do this independently without relying on intermediaries." He added that this initiative would undoubtedly curtail manipulation and corruption while ensuring transparency.
Internal Testing Before Public Release
A senior official from the department stated, "The assessment of stamp duty will be put online for public use. We will ensure that this is done internally before rolling it out for the people."
Integration with Digital Locker Scheme
Ramaswamy also mentioned that the linking of e-registration of documents like leave and licenses with the Digital Locker scheme had been completed and would soon be officially launched. The Digital India Scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, includes the Aadhaar-linked Digi Locker. This service allows people to store their important documents like address proof, education certificates, and property papers in a digital format, offering free storage space.
