Panchkula's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has arrested two people for conspiring with property dealers and stamp vendors to forge agreements and identity documents to transfer 15 kanals 2 marlas of ancestral land in Barwala village, according to Panchkula police.
What police say happened
Police said the accused prepared fake agreements, forged signatures and used false identity documents to claim the land. Officials said the notarised documents were drawn up in 2024 and 2025.
The EOW said the accused worked with property dealers and stamp vendors to prepare the paperwork. The two arrests are the first in the case.
Investigators are trying to identify other members of the network, including stamp vendors, officials said. No further arrests had been announced at the time of writing.
Who is affected
The case concerns ancestral land, which often has several heirs and may not have been mutated in the revenue records. Papers for such land can be forged in a family member's name without the other heirs' knowledge.
The documents were notarised, but a notary's stamp did not prevent the attempted fake transfer. Buyers and sellers in Barwala and nearby villages are most exposed to a land deal based on such papers.
In this case, the forged papers were agreements and identity documents, not a registered sale deed. A buyer who relies on an agreement to sell rather than the revenue record and registered chain of title carries the greatest risk.
Barwala and the local market
Barwala lies in Panchkula district, about 27 km by road from Chandigarh International Airport and about 28 km from Chandigarh Railway Station. Dera Bassi's Civil Hospital is about 13 km away, while Panchkula's industrial areas are about 22 to 24 km away.
The Times of India reported in September 2026 that Panchkula is to build seven rural roads worth ₹2.42 crore to link cut-off villages. PropertyWala's Panchkula page covers the city's wider market.
What to watch
The EOW is trying to identify the remaining conspirators, including stamp vendors and other network members. Police said the investigation is continuing.
