Gurgaon: A special panel appointed by the Haryana Government has paved the way for the municipal corporation to recommence property tax collection in Gurgaon.
This collection had been halted in June of this year due to widespread complaints regarding erroneous land tax bills sent to numerous property owners.
The corporation plans to initiate tax collection promptly upon receiving notifications from Chandigarh.
The special panel was designated by Haryana’s public work minister. Under the newly enforced regulations, residents of Gurgaon are required to pay Rs 1 for every square yard, provided their plots do not exceed 300 sq yd. For plots measuring between 301 sq yd and two acres, the tax rates will vary from Rs 4 to Rs 10 per sq yd.
For commercial plots, a rate of Rs 12 per sq yd is applicable for sizes up to 1,000 sq yd, while Rs 15 per sq yd will be charged for areas exceeding this threshold. Notably, basements will not be subjected to tax as they are dedicated exclusively to parking purposes.
In the past year, the municipal corporation had successfully collected Rs 270 crore in property tax. The body emphasized that the evasion of property tax was a deliberate act by certain individuals.
