From Saturday, February 19, 2022, homebuyers will be able to check details of project and developer complaints on the MahaRERA website, according to officials from the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority. This initiative is intended to assist homebuyers in making informed decisions before investing in projects. The official reported that the website will display 16,000 project and developer-related complaints received by MahaRERA.
Enhanced Project Information
The MahaRERA website will provide customers with comprehensive project information, including the total number and status of complaints filed, non-compliance requests, and other pertinent details. Additionally, information about promoters will be made available to consumers.
Greater Transparency
Ajoy Mehta, MahaRERA chairperson, noted that there has been a growing demand for these details from homebuyers. According to homebuyers, this information will aid them in making informed decisions about specific projects. All these details will be accessible in a separate category on the website's main page in the coming week.
Currently, information regarding project complaints is available only to the complainants and concerned developers, with only the final orders being in the public domain. The Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act 2016, which came into force on May 1, 2017, aims to regulate transactions between builders and homebuyers by ensuring efficiency, transparency, and accountability.
Expert Opinions
Ramesh Prabhu, chairman of the Maharashtra Society Welfare Association, stated, "The new decision is a step towards greater transparency. The consumer must have all the information about the project. Homebuyers can know the status of projects and developers."
State Credai (Confederation of Real Estate Developers Associations of India) President Sunil Furde noted that the decision will definitely benefit homebuyers as they will have access to all the information they need.
