Multiple Extensions Offer Relief to Property Owners
The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has extended the deadline for its one-time property tax settlement scheme multiple times, providing significant relief to defaulting property owners. The original deadline of July 31 has been extended twice, first to August 15 and then to August 31, 2025.
Impressive Revenue Generation Despite Slow Start
The scheme, launched on May 15, initially saw a sluggish response from taxpayers. However, the momentum picked up in July, as property owners rushed to take advantage of the full waiver benefits. The civic body has successfully collected ₹19 crore under this settlement scheme, contributing substantially to the ₹43 crore property tax revenue achieved so far against an annual target of ₹160 crore.
Key Features of the Settlement Scheme
Property owners with pending dues dating back to 2013-14 can clear their entire backlog without paying any interest or penalties. This is an opportunity for defaulters burdened by accumulating charges.
Benefits include:
- Full waiver of interest and penalties
- Coverage of dues from 2013-14 onwards
- Extended deadline providing extra time
- Simplified payment process through Suvidha centers
Working Overtime to Serve Citizens
MC employees have been working tirelessly, including weekends and public holidays, to manage the surge in last-minute payments. Suvidha centers across Ludhiana have remained open on weekends as the August 31 deadline approaches, ensuring maximum convenience for residents.
Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal emphasized this citizen-friendly initiative, urging residents to take advantage of this golden opportunity before it expires. The scheme particularly targets commercial properties and paying guest accommodations that have accumulated significant dues over the years.
