The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expressed that while they find the draft Land Acquisition and Resettlement and Rehabilitation Bill 2011 to be a positive step, its current version is unacceptable. Sangh Priya Gautam, a former Union minister, emphasized the notion that farmers should possess the right to sell a full 100% of their land. Citing an example from Greater Noida, he noted that although the Formula 1 racetrack required only 1,000 acres, the government acquired and subsequently allocated 2,500 acres to a private builder. He pointedly argued that land should be leased from farmers, retaining ownership with them instead. Furthermore, a prominent BJP figure highlighted that the central government’s draft allows for the urgency clause to be invoked only during instances of natural calamity or in situations pertaining to national security.
