Chandigarh's Auto-Mutation System: A Game Changer in Property Transfers
Starting July 7, 2025, Chandigarh will transform property ownership transfers with its auto-mutation system. This digital governance initiative aims at removing manual processes and promoting transparency. Developed by the Estate Office in partnership with the Sub-Registrar Office (SRO), this system automates mutation procedures based on registered property deeds, ensuring quicker, corruption-free transfers.
How the Auto-Mutation System Works
Automated Initiation:
- After registering the property at the SRO, the system automatically starts the mutation process.
- Data and documents are sent in real-time to the Estate Office portal, eliminating manual submissions.
Streamlined Workflow:
- Leasehold properties: Mutation done within 2 working days.
- Freehold properties: Mutation completed within 7 working days.
Transparent Tracking:
- Ownership changes appear on the Estate Office’s online portal right after the process is finished.
