In a significant move, the state government has resolved to regularize illegal colonies in Ghaziabad, mirroring the approach of the Jaipur Development Authority from Rajasthan. This new policy aims to benefit a total of 208 illegal colonies that have faced longstanding issues regarding their legitimacy.
The Uttar Pradesh (UP) administration is proactively seeking suggestions from development authorities statewide. They have sent out a letter urging feedback, with a copy of the Jaipur Development Authority’s policy included for reference. Authorities have 15 days to submit their suggestions. The regularization of these colonies will be prioritized, according to state administration officials.
Raj Kumar Sachan, the secretary of the Ghaziabad Development Authority, noted that the new policy grants development authorities increased powers, enabling them to expedite the regularization process. He mentioned, "The state’s approval must still be secured for minor issues; nonetheless, this requirement is not mandatory according to the Jaipur authority's guidelines. Additionally, the regularization tax imposed is considerably lower."
Completion of development works will hinge upon the regularization of the colonies. Until this process is finalized, works funded by MLA and MP grants can only be initiated in these areas. With the regularization in place, the Ghaziabad Development Authority will finally be able to carry out its responsibilities effectively.
