GMADA Finally Launches Eco City-2 Extension After 12-Year Wait

A Long-Awaited Launch Finally Arrives

GMADA Finally Launches Eco City-2 Extension After 12-Year Wait After a 12-year wait, the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) is set to launch its much-anticipated Eco City-2 Extension scheme in the final week of September 2025. This marks GMADA's eighth township project, bringing new opportunities to New Chandigarh's real estate landscape.

The project spans an impressive 96 acres in Hoshiarpur village, strategically positioned in New Chandigarh. What makes this development particularly significant is its mixed-use approach, combining both residential and commercial opportunities in a single, well-planned township.

Project Details and Pricing Structure

The residential component features 153 plots divided into two categories: 135 one-kanal plots and 18 two-kanal plots. These residential plots are priced at ₹5,500 per square yard, making them affordable for a broader range of buyers. The allocation process will follow a transparent draw of lots system, ensuring fair distribution among interested purchasers.

Commercial plots within the township will be available through an auction process, allowing market forces to determine optimal pricing. This dual approach balances affordability for residential buyers while maximising returns on commercial properties.

Infrastructure Investment and Development Timeline

GMADA has shown a serious commitment by floating tenders worth ₹50 crore for essential infrastructure development. These investments cover critical areas including roads, water supply systems, sewerage networks, and electrical installations. The authority has also applied for environmental clearance, with approval expected within a week of the original announcement.

Historical Context and Challenges

The project's journey began in 2013 when GMADA acquired the land under its land pooling policy. Despite compensating landowners and completing plot demarcation, the scheme remained stalled for over a decade due to the absence of a required social-impact assessment. This bureaucratic hurdle has finally been resolved, paving the way for the current launch.

Upcoming developments illustrate the growth trajectory of New Chandigarh, providing residential and commercial opportunities within a well-planned township environment.
