UP has India’s second-largest economy, accounting for 9.2% of GDP

Uttar Pradesh (UP) has proudly achieved the status of the nation’s second-largest economy, showcasing significant progress in alignment with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s ambitious aim of reaching a $1 trillion economy by the year 2027, as highlighted by a credible report from the online platform Soic.

As per data from the stock market and investment analysis platform, UP holds the second-largest GDP share in India, just behind Maharashtra. Maharashtra leads with a GDP share of 15.7%, while Uttar Pradesh closely follows with a share of 9.2%. Previously, UP occupied the third position.

Other states, including West Bengal at 7.5%, Tamil Nadu at 9.1%, and Gujarat at 8.2%, fall below Uttar Pradesh in terms of GDP contribution. Madhya Pradesh (4.9%), Karnataka (6.2%), Rajasthan (5.5%), and Andhra Pradesh (4.9%) are among those trailing even further behind.

Over the past seven years, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has propelled Uttar Pradesh towards rapid advancement across multiple sectors. The state has successfully eliminated organized crime, while the industrial sector witnesses swift development. A government spokesperson highlighted that UP has improved its position drastically from 14th to the 2nd rank in the “Ease of Doing Business” indicators.

Moreover, bolstered by enhancements in infrastructure, connectivity, and law enforcement, the state has attracted investment proposals exceeding Rs 40 lakh crore, expected to take effect soon, which will create over one crore new jobs.

Currently, the state exports goods amounting to approximately Rs 2 lakh crore. The ratio of bank loans to deposits has also seen a significant rise, going from 42-43% to a commendable 60%. Uttar Pradesh has transformed into a revenue surplus state, with around 56% of its population engaged in employment.

The state is now home to 96 lakh Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Once known as a BIMARU state, Uttar Pradesh is now setting the pace for development, all thanks to the leadership of CM Yogi Adityanath.
