State Government Granted SEZ Status To JSW Steel Plant Project

West Bengal Government Greenlights SEZ Status for JSW Steel Plant

In a significant development, the West Bengal state government has given its nod to a proposal seeking Special Economic Zone (SEZ) status for the JSW steel plant project located in Salboni. This approval comes with specific pre-conditions aimed at maximizing the project's potential for industrial growth.

Conditions for SEZ Status

  • Manufacturing and Processing Focus: The entire area granted under the SEZ status must be utilized exclusively for manufacturing and processing activities.
  • Domestic Market Sale Requirement: The investor, JSW, will be mandated to sell its products in the domestic market, thereby facilitating the setup of downstream industries.

Approval for Aerotropolis Project

Concurrently, the government has also approved the acquisition of approximately 3500 acres for the ambitious Aerotropolis project. This mega-development, situated at Andal, encompasses a private airport and a substantial real estate component.

Committee's Stance

The Cabinet sub-committee on industry, after thorough deliberation, agreed to the proposal for granting SEZ status to the steel project, subject to the aforementioned conditions. This move is envisioned to boost industrial activities, foster downstream industries, and position the region as a manufacturing hub.
