Proposed Delhi Metro Project to Greater Noida through Noida Extension Shelved

In Noida Extension, the miseries of land buyers seem to be endless. Recently, the Allahabad court rendered the acquisition of approximately 600 hectares of land in the village of Patwari void. This judicial action has impacted nearly 20,000 buyers, leading to significant ramifications. Furthermore, the court is postponing its examination of a petition concerning the acquisition of another 466 hectares of land located in Roza-Yaqoobpur village until July 26.

The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) faces a daunting task ahead, having to dismantle two vital inter-city road links and restore the area to a condition suitable for agricultural use. Moreover, this ruling prevents the construction of a planned Metro line connecting Noida to Greater Noida that was set to traverse through Noida Extension. Confirmation from GNIDA's CEO, Rama Raman, indicated that the disruption of crucial road links and the shelving of the Metro project are now inevitable.

To date, GNIDA has invested around INR 1500 crore into developing infrastructure within Noida Extension. As the saying goes, why build a road if it will only need to be excavated later? Deputy CEO Akhilesh Singh pointed out that 70% of the work on the Greater Noida–Noida road, which measures a substantial 130 meters wide and stretches 28 kilometers long, has already been completed. This link was operational in certain areas, yet since it intersects with Shahberi, Patwari, and several other villages, it may need to be allocated back to farmers as agricultural land. Similarly, the Greater Noida–Ghaziabad road, which is 60 meters wide and 22 kilometers long, is also slated for undoing due to its location within the impacted Noida Extension regions.
