MDDA Expands Master Plan 2025 to Include 10 Villages
The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) is broadening the scope of its master plan for 2025 by incorporating ten additional villages. This initiative centers around designating land use classifications across various areas within Dehradun and Mussoorie. The MDDA has granted initial approval to the blueprint for these ten villages, with finalization pending public feedback.
Current Scope of MDDA's Jurisdiction
The MDDA's jurisdiction currently encompasses two municipal areas, Mussoorie and Dehradun, along with 185 villages. Master plans have already been formulated for Dehradun and 165 of these villages. Officials from the local planning agency confirmed that an additional 10 villages remain part of this ongoing process.
Villages Included in the Draft Plan
Several villages, including Vidholi, Kishanpur, and Doodhi, are featured in the draft plan. Furthermore, inspections are slated for other rural locales, such as Kali Ghat, Bekrana, and Rikholi to assess their incorporation as well.
Local Concerns and Skepticism
However, some residents harbor reservations about the MDDA's effectiveness in implementing the master plan thus far. A local socio-activist voiced concerns, stating, "I do not think the master plan is ever put to use, new areas which are added will not benefit the locals. The aim behind the formation of villages is only to maximize price of property in the suburb of the city." This sentiment reflects a degree of skepticism among certain community members regarding the potential benefits of the expanded master plan, particularly concerning the potential impact of increased property values on local residents.
